University organisation advice can become slightly ridiculous.

Wake up at 5:30.

Colour-code seventeen calendars.

Meal prep your entire month.

Track every hour.

Schedule your relaxation.

No thank you.

Being organised at university doesn't mean turning yourself into a productivity robot.

It simply means knowing what matters before it becomes urgent.

Here’s a much easier way to approach it.

Keep One Main System

Do not store your life in six different places.

One calendar for dates.

One planner for tasks.

One place for important information.

Simple systems get used.

Complicated systems look impressive for approximately eleven days.

Plan the Week Before the Week Starts

Take ten minutes.

Look at:

Your timetable.

Deadlines.

Appointments.

Travel.

Social plans.

Laundry.

Anything unusual.

Then choose your three biggest priorities.

That's enough.

Work Backwards From Deadlines

If an assignment is due in three weeks, give yourself smaller dates.

Research.

Outline.

First draft.

Edit.

Submit.

Suddenly it becomes four manageable tasks instead of one enormous panic.

Have a Life-Admin List

Life admin includes everything annoying enough to avoid and important enough to eventually cause a problem.

Reply to accommodation.

Book appointment.

Wash bedding.

Return package.

Buy toothpaste.

Keep these tasks together.

Use the Two-Minute Test

Some things feel much larger in your head than they actually are.

If it takes around two minutes:

Send the email.

Book the appointment.

Put the washing on.

Add the deadline.

Do it before your brain turns it into an entire project.

Give Yourself a Weekly Reset

Once a week ask:

What is due?

Do I have food?

Do I have clean clothes?

Is there anything important in my email?

Do I need to buy anything?

Is there somebody I need to contact?

Five minutes can prevent a surprising amount of chaos.

Don't Schedule Every Hour

Leave room for university to actually happen.

People will invite you places.

Classes will change.

You will be tired.

Plans move.

Your planner should support your life.

It shouldn't become another thing you're failing at.

Focus on What You Need to Remember

University organisation isn't about becoming incredibly productive.

It's about reducing avoidable stress.

Remember your deadlines.

Know where you need to be.

Have food.

Do the laundry eventually.

Answer important emails.

Everything else can improve with practice.
